World Diabetes Day 2024: BUZUD leads effort to reduce undiagnosed diabetes cases in Singapore with active health screenings

Published on:December 02 2024

Singapore, 18 November 2024 – With nearly 40% of diabetes cases in Singapore going undiagnosed, BUZUD, a rising force in health innovation, has stepped up to make a crucial difference. In collaboration with Diabetes Singapore, BUZUD has been instrumental in this year’s World Diabetes Day (WDD) events, contributing dedicated manpower to educate and screening equipment to conduct free health screenings for the public. Over the course of one month, BUZUD has joined Diabetes Singapore at various events all over Singapore (see Annex 1), educating 20,000 people on diabetes awareness and conducting health screening for 2500 people.

The healthcare burden of diabetes in Singapore is significant, with the government projected to spend more than S$1 billion annually on diabetes treatment by 2050 if current trends continue. Much of this burden arises because many cases are only diagnosed when complications have already developed, increasing both the cost and complexity of treatment. Studies show that individuals with undiagnosed or late-diagnosed diabetes face a heightened risk of severe complications, which require intensive, costly long-term care. By providing early screening and preventive care, BUZUD’s health screenings are helping to catch cases sooner, potentially saving lives and reducing the economic impact of diabetes on the nation.

Beyond HbA1c testing, participants were also able to measure their Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, lipid profile, and uric acid levels. Diabetes Singapore and BUZUD made the decision to expand these screenings in order to address the interconnected nature of these health indicators, as conditions like hypertension, high cholesterol, and elevated uric acid levels are often linked to diabetes and overall metabolic health. By offering a more comprehensive screening, Diabetes Singapore and BUZUD emphasise the importance of general wellness, highlighting how early detection and management of these interrelated conditions are key to preventing complications and improving quality of life.

In addition to screenings, BUZUD is promoting a holistic approach to healthcare through its Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS) and BUZUD mobile application, making diabetes management easier and more effective for Singaporeans. The CGMS provides real-time insights into glucose levels, enabling users to detect patterns and adjust their diets, activities, and medication accordingly. Integrated with the BUZUD mobile app, the system offers real-time alerts, dietary analysis, and data-sharing options with healthcare providers, giving users greater control over their health and supporting proactive diabetes management. (see Annex 2)

To increase awareness of the CGMS and BUZUD mobile app, BUZUD has showcased these tools at various community health events and World Diabetes Day activities, where Singaporeans have had the chance to see live demonstrations and ask questions about how these innovations can help in their daily lives. These events have provided a unique opportunity for people to experience BUZUD’s technology firsthand, and to better understand how these tools can empower them in managing diabetes more effectively.

With the backing of BUZUD’s advanced technology and community-focused approach, these events mark a vital step towards tackling the diabetes challenge in Singapore. As BUZUD continues to grow, its commitment to improving health access and awareness stands firm, paving the way for a healthier, well-informed society.

As a one-stop health management platform, BUZUD is leading the way in transforming diabetes management through the use of BUZUD Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS) and the BUZUD mobile application (BMA).

The BUZUD CGMS is a wearable device that enables users to track their blood glucose levels in real time. The CGMS provides diabetics with a comprehensive view of glucose levels, allowing them to better understand how their bodies respond to food, physical activity and medication, and help identify patterns that may go unnoticed with the traditional testing method.

The integration of the BUZUD mobile application into the CGMS also enhances the way blood glucose is managed in several significant ways:

Timely alerts: The BMA will send out real-time notifications to the user’s phone when glucose levels are out of range. These alerts reduce the risk of low blood glucose (hypoglycaemia) and high blood glucose (hyperglycaemia), enabling timely intervention and preventing dangerous fluctuations in glucose levels.

Accurate dietary analysis: The BMA is also able to analyse the nutrition levels of the user’s food intake, allowing them to make better dietary choices, while also consolidating the information as part of the user’s health data.

Share crucial data with healthcare providers easily: The CGMS is able to gather a lot more data as compared to traditional methods and the data (subjected to patient’s consent) can be easily consolidated into a report and then shared with healthcare providers using the BMA. This detailed report will enable healthcare providers to better understand their patients’ condition and tailor treatment accordingly.

What sets BUZUD apart is its seamless integration of advanced technology, simplifying diabetes management and giving patients greater control over their health. This supports CEO Frankie Fan’s vision of a holistic approach to personal health.

To make diabetes care more accessible, BUZUD actively participates in awareness events and has waived all fees for using the BMA, unlike competitors. This ensures their products reach a wider audience, enhancing their impact on diabetes management.
