BUZUD searches state-of-the-art hearing aids to help choose what’s best for YOU!

It’s not really that I’ve been an advocate for hearing aids for a long time, it’s just that I’ve been losing my hearing for a long time! So it’s actually very important for me because I’m actually hearing impaired and I simply want to hear better! – Leslie Nielsen

Recognizing that your hearing may need an extra boost is the first step. A very big step. Taking it means that you are ready and willing to take other steps. Don’t worry; they are painless and convenient – geared for your lifestyle.

So, how do you know it’s time? When should you do it? Who’s there to help you? Relax. We are here to help by giving you information on hearing aid technology and its benefits that will accrue as you use your new device.

Most people with minimal hearing loss can benefit from wearing a high-quality device. The plusses of improved hearing are plenty. When you are not hearing everything clearly, you miss important verbal cues from your interlocutors. Especially in loud environments (like many inside and outside workplaces), what people are saying to you is vital to performing your job well.

In personal relationships, it goes without saying that hearing a clear version of what others are communicating is a key skill in building and maintaining interpersonal relationships. Whether doing business or bonding personally, being fully aware of your environment and the people communicating within it, are vital skills for a happy productive lifestyle. Sharp hearing is a key.

Not hearing clearly at first subtly, then by greater degrees, makes you more reliant on asking others to repeat or explain verbal interaction. Soon, instead of being a contributing member in conversations and discussions, you become a passive onlooker. Exacerbating the problem, crowded situations like shopping, concerts, sporting events, and parties are especially likely to heighten nervousness and loss of confidence. With a good hearing aid to help, you can reclaim your confident, ebullient self. For specific hearing issues – like tinnitus – hearing specialists are likely to advise using a hearing aid. The sooner, the better.

More and more studies show that hearing aids leads to improved overall good health – cardio-vascular well-being; psychological balance; physical stability; cognitive abilities – as well as overall better physical and mental health.

As you may have guessed, there are several different types of hearing aids. Some are large, some are small, some are readily affordable, others are a more major purchase. Most fit into four categories:

  • BTE – Behind the Ear

Often worn by small children because it is pliable, sturdy, clean and easy to handle.

  • “Mini” BTE or receiver in canal (RIC) aids

Smaller than the BTE and connected to the ear canal by a plastic tube, mini BTE’s are especially good at dealing with occlusion and blending with the ear.

  • In-the-ear (ITE) aids

As the name implies, these fit snugly into the ear itself. Easier to handle than smaller types.

  • In-the-canal (ITC) aids and completely-in-the-canal (CIC) aids

Snugly fitted into tiny containers, these aids fit completely into the ear canal. Listening quality is first rate and the cosmetic advantages are obvious (or not!).

When investigating hearing aids, you may consider whether it has: a digital microphone; noise reduction features; feedback suppression; a telephone switch; or wireless capabilities. In-person help is readily available at BUZUD.

If all you’ve done to address hearing issues is to read this article, you have made a terrific beginning. Now you know the names of the types of hearing aids, considerations while deliberating, and (let’s hope) comforting advice. Enjoy better hearing!
